A poster on a German forum is claiming both a 17mm TS-E and 24mm TS-E are coming from Canon in the next few weeks, completely new designs.

The same poster later in the thread claims prices are 2499 € for the 17mm, and 2299 € for the 24mm, and claims "Starting tonight at our shop", available in April.

CanonRumors f3.5 at PMA

CR has issued a prediction for PMA 2009, based on the rumors that they have received. PMA starts in about 3 weeks at the beginning of March, although a release of something is expected next week on February 17th/18th.

They are predicting a new Canon TS-E 24mm f3.5L II Lens as being the second most likely lens to be released (the 35mm f1.4 being the most likely). Why? It's generally accepted the current lens has been discontinued. CR reported it could be f/2.8, now they are saying they think it's more likely to be 3.5 because of design limitations. We agree, a f2.8 TS-E lens would be an impressive beast in more ways than one (size, weight, price - take your pick).

Again, this is their prediction based on rumors they have received.

A forum poster on DPReview claims:

"The next ts lens will be less than 24mm, or there will be a new wide angle lens L series less than 24mm. Cause the embargo the guy can't say more, and is a canon professional manager. Sory for my miserable English. "

Could be referring to the 24mm TC-E that is expected. Could be referring to a different lens. Could be wrong.

Canon Confirms 24mm TS-E Discontinued

According to a forum posting on 2/10/09:

"Mon. P.M. I called 1-800-OK-CANON (USA) & the sales desk did confirm that the 24 TS-E has in fact been discontinued. She didn't have or couldn't give any info on a replacement."

Existing Lens Dropped From Canon Website

The existing 24mm TS-E lens has disappeared from Canons web site, perhaps another indication that a replacement is imminent.

CanonRumors has received an anonymous email about a new 24mm Tilt/Shift lens:

"A collegue has been testing a new tilt-shift lens from Canon….. It’s 24mm and a bit faster than the current lens offered by Canon

The results have been a big improvement over the current model.

I have no idea when this lens could or would be released"

Tilt/Shift lenses have traditionally been a small niche, however with pixel densities increasing and diffraction issues hitting at lower and lower apertures (like on the Canon EOS 50D), T/S Lenses start becoming a lot more useful to control the in-focus areas in the frame. Also note that Nikon released new T/S lenses in 2008.
