Sony DSLR Buying Recommendations

Below are our current recommendations for purchasing Sony cameras. Please note, these recommendations are speculative, and are based on a combination of our opinions, the prior release history of cameras from Sony, and in some cases rumors we believe to be credible.

Sony Alpha A900:

Recommendation: Wait

Reason: As the first Full Frame camera from Sony, we have no track record of the release cycle.

However Sony have already released the same sensor in a $2000 body (Sony A850), and rumors abound of a "pro" model above the A900. Sony is aggressively going after market share, so we wouldn't be surprised at a new high-end model within the next few months to displace the A900.

Recommendation: Buy

Reason: Released in August 2009, we expect this camera to be current for at least 18-24 months before a replacement is due.

Reason: Introduced in 2010, we'd expect this model to stay current well into 2011.

Reason: Released in August 2009, we expect this camera to be current for at least 18-24 months before a replacement is due.
