Aimed at serious amateurs, Canon's new EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (buy from Amazon , B&H) will be available in October 2008, with an MSRP of $699.00. This zoom range has been one of Nikon's bestsellers for several years, so should be a very popular lens.
This new lens features Canon's built in Optical Image Stabilization system, which Canon claims gives the equivalent effect of a shutter speed roughly 4 steps faster. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.45m/1.5 ft. at all zoom settings. Filter size is 72mm, and it includes 16 elements in 12 groups, including UD-glass and aspherical lenses.
The lens has a diameter of 3.1 inches (78.6mm) and a length of 6.4 inches (162.5mm), and weighs 20.99oz (595g).
