Nikon's D700 digital SLR has won overall Product of the Year at the annual awards hosted by Amateur Photographer (AP) magazine, beating out all other cameras including Canon's EOS 1DS MARK III and the Sony Alpha 900.
AP's editorial technical team said that the D700 takes the best bits of the D3, including the sensor and the AF, white balance and metering systems, but incorporates them in a smaller, lighter, and less expensive body, aimed at enthusiast photographers.
