Hejnar PHOTO currently makes 3 different sized Arca-Style clamps: the 1.5" wide mini-clamp, and larger 2.375" and 3.25" width clamps (which are available with large or small knobs). Pictured below are the mini clamp and mid-sized 2.375" clamp with the larger knob:
All Hejnar PHOTO clamps are made in the U.S.A. from 6061-T6 Aluminum and have a black anodized finish. They all feature a central countersunk 3/8" x 16 threaded hole, which allows you to screw them directly onto a standard tripod, or you can use the supplied 1/4" x 20 screw to attach it to a rail or similar.
In addition, the larger two clamps (but not the mini clamp) have two additional features:
They have channels down the middle of the clamp to make them compatible with safety stops used by manufacturers like Hejnar PHOTO, RRS, Kirk and Wimberley.
They have two addition countersunk 1/4" x 20 threaded holes that can be used to attach them to other accessories including rails.
All three sizes feature captive knobs, and all three are fully compatible with the Hejnar PHOTO E-031 or E-032 rails. These rails are specifically designed to accommodate clamps, and come with pins, which prevent the clamps from being twisted off when mounted either parallel to or perpendicular to the rail. The two pictures below show the both clamps attached to the E-032 rail in different orientations:
At the time of writing, the mini-clamp retails for $44.95, and the larger clamps retail for $59.99 and come in two versions with short or long knobs (the 2.375" clamp featured here has the long knob). The clamps are available directly from the . In the interests of full disclosure, the 2.375" clamp used in this review was kindly provided to us for review by the manufacturer.
Fit and Finish
The fit and finish is excellent. Like other recent products from Hejnar PHOTO, the finish is smooth and flawless, and the numerous mounting options described above make these clamps extremely versatile. Operation is smooth and these clamps work very well with all the Arca rails and plates we've tested them with (covering multiple manufacturers including RRS, Kirk, Foba, Acratech, Photo Clam and Vanguard).
Performance
Overall the Hejnar PHOTO Clamps work very well, the picture below shows both clamps in use together along with a Hejnar PHOTO rail as part of a long lens support.
The following picture again shows both clamps in use, this time as part of a multi-row panoramic head setup:
The only minor reservation with the clamps is the exposed springs/thread when you open the clamp, which may require occasional cleaning if you are routinely shooting in hostile environments (excessive dust, mud etc). However for the vast majority of users, the price combined with the quality of the clamp, the numerous mounting options and anti-twist features (with compatible rails) makes the Hejnar PHOTO clamps very attractive indeed.
